The Hernando County Tax Collector’s Office is sharing an important warning from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) regarding a recent text message scam targeting Florida drivers.
Residents have reported receiving fraudulent texts claiming they have an unpaid traffic ticket. The message threatens to suspend their driver license.
REMEMBER: The Hernando County Tax Collector’s Office, FLHSMV and Toll Authorities will never contact you via text message demanding payment or threatening suspension or arrest.
If you receive a suspicious message:
- Do not click any links.
- Do not share any personal or financial information.
- Report it to the Federal Trade Commission and local law enforcement immediately.
